COVID-19 pandemic swept across the world, leaving its inhabitant clueless, distressed, disfunction, and ultimately separated from one another. These issues are slowly affecting morales and further contribute to deteriorating mental health. Despite the turmoil, some found a way to keep their senses and passion alive. What started as a therapy gradually grows into conscience and self-realisation toward the new reality around them.
7 is a project by seven art and design lecturers from UiTM Shah Alam and Puncak Alam to share their sources of inspiration during the pandemic. Halted by the series of Movement Control Order (MCO), they finally put the exhibition into order after a loose break over the restriction in recent times. The line-up artists for 7 exhibition comprise Alias Yussof, Khairul Zikri Abdullah, Fazli Othman, Hakkam Hafiz Abdain, Rizal Salleh, Noriza Arzain, and Natasha Azim share a similar propensity to recuperate with the breakdown by utilising artistic ability to address their immediate concerns. Each represents an individual style and techniques based on their respective practice.
7 acts as an intermediary to bind relationships and sensibility towards the surroundings, acceptance of difficulties, and an effort to explore and get to know oneself and others. In this sense, an exhibition is only a tool crucial for togetherness in keeping the camaraderie spirit alive in facing the challenges of today’s increasingly volatile world.
